Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hi, My name is Jeremy. I have 2 res which is currently 3 years old. Recently 1 of the res showing some weird behavior of trying to bite (or scratch? due to no injury resulted) only his right front leg. At first was not very obvious but now very frequent. My res sometime will try to swim backward just to stretch his right front leg forward in order for himself to bite!

However his movement was not affected as swimming pattern normal. As I take the res out to check visually on his right front leg, no swelling or any abnormalities found.

Anyone encounter this before?

My male RES does something similar after I removed one of his basking areas. He's a bit of an aggressive one and was biting the platform at night. He even chipped his beak from doing so.

Ive seen a couple of my turtles bite their own leg. i think thats just a way they get off dead skin or they are just biting to scratch the area.
