My turtles never get any natural light and I'm see some whiteness on their shell in areas that have not shed recently. This year I'm going to take them outside with me when I do some gardening.

How long can I keep them outside just basking in the grass or in a plastic tub?

If I purchase some betadine, what happens if when soaking in it they drink some it or some gets in their mouth?

Why do you want to soak your turtle in betadine. Betadine is usually used if your turtle had a wound and you're cleaning it.

Bringing your turtles outside can be complicated. You must always be near them in case a bird gets close. You can't leave them in a tub in the sun, they'll overheat. Your going to want to let them free roam for about an hour.

But a good UVB light would do just the same!

I have a good UVB light.

I think they could possibly have some mild fungus because their shells look a little white when they dry out while basking. It could just be they need to shed some shutes, but either way I figured some natural sun would be a good thing for them as long as I'm outside gardening and keeping an eye on them.

Can you post a picture of the shell dry? Outside time is great if you can manage it.

I'll try to get a good picture, but I don't have a good camera.

I assume If I take them outside with me for 30 minutes of direct sunlight when spring and summer comes, they should be OK unless it's a brutally hot day. Correct? I'll skip those extreme days.

It may vary with your turtles, but 75-85 is usually fine. How many turtles do you want to take out?

I have 2 female RES and I'll be able to keep a good eye on them while I'm doing some gardening and watering plants etc..

You should set up a basic barrier or have them in an enclosed area. It's extremely easy to lose track of them in a few seconds. They blend into their surroundings, move faster than you think and can dig and climb well.
