I have several updates on my turts. First off, I named all four of them. My niece who is 3 and a half was fascinated that her uncle had Tuck the turtle from wonderpets...so naturally that became his/her name. The other three I named Squirt, Dude (from Finding Nemo, and Franklin which is the other show my niece watches.
Habitat update:
I was going to purchase a long 55 gallon tank from petco for $89.99. While wandering around my sisters neighborhood for a deli I came across a pond/fish store. I went in and asked the chinese guy if he had a large tank for four turtles, and he said he had a used 75 gallon for $100. A couple of hours later I went back and bought it. It had been sitting outside and was dirty. It had also been resealed on the sides. I had a friend of mine help me set it up. The tank is about twice the length of the old 55gallon tall tank i had and double the width. The kids really seem to enjoy it. They have a lot more room to swim around in. I fear now though that eventually I will need a bigger tank, hopefully not for a few years at least. I also bought another external filter that works up to a 30 gallon tank combined with the other rock filter I had in there that worked for a 55 gallon tank. The tank is about 1/3 full with water. The guy in the store said they actually don't like that much water. I figured I would put more water in once they get a bit bigger. I cut down the pvc pipe to the basking area I made for them in the old tank because I felt that they were diving off of it and I didn't want them to get hurt. I don't have a hood and am using the light from the old tank for now until I can afford one that fits the tank.Im eventually going to make an above tank basking area from them, actually I'm working on that now. So far my kids are happy, I fed them pieces of apple today for the first time and they seemed to like it. I hope i'm doing everything right here, cause I'm trying my best to give these guys the best life.
