General Care Discussion :: 2 different turtles breeding

My turtles are now about 4 years old and after seeing my male Mississippi map turtle receive the fluttery hands from my female res I'm wondering is it possible for the 2 to breed?

Now the map turtle is also doing fluttery hands.

The fluttering is also a territory dance saying stay out of my area. they are probably just doing that. So watch out that it doesnt turn into something more like physical attack like bitting.

But we never have had fighting ever, they stack and swim together all day long never seen any aggression

Agression can start at anytime. Esp if the space is limited. You may need a larger tank

I knew of the hybrid posted their, but just clarify on that. If you think the female is the one that starts the fluttering that is not the mating dance. Males are the ones that start the dance. Dont get your hopes up of them breeding because like steve said its rare.

Well they have as much space as I can give for right now with them being 4inch and 2 1/2 inch big they have a 120 gallon tank that's brand new to them less than a month coming from a 20 gallon tank... I received them from a friend of mine that no longer wanted them or cared for them quite correctly obviously so space shouldn't really be the issue but since this morning no more fluttering but same old swimming together and stacking with no agression, though shortly after my second post the map turtle started nosing around in front of the res but there was no biting both closed mouth and the res didn't seem bothered by this didn't even raise a hand to push him away?

I'm not saying that I'm apposed to baby's as in separating them to prevent it but nor am I unhappy, I will keep an eye on them for more aggressiveness but so far nothing is really different at all
