General Care Discussion :: new turtle

So I posted a few days ago about the eastern painted turtle I rescued.
Just thought I would share a few things.
The vet said he is completely healthy. His shell is a little uneven from improper feeding and he is a little over weight but that's all.
I'm working very hard to get him eating veggies but so far no luck I am going to try jello shots next week and see if that entices him.
I finally named him his name is Zim after my one of my favorite cartoons and also because he looks like an alien compared to my 2 sliders.

Just one question how long can a painted turtle go without eating before I should get worried?

Over a week and then you should go back to your vet. You shouldnt have any problem with Painteds. Even wc painteds take to eating pellets very fast. I found their especially good with their veggies too. They love them.

Well the issue is the girl I got him from had been feeding him nothing but crickets,mealworms,and shrimp his whole life(the vet is guessing he's about 4yo) I gave him some pellets today and he hasn't eaten them yet but it hasn't been very long. I been leaving a price of green leaf lettuce in his tank every morning and taking it out the next morning and he doesn't touch it I also tried red leaf lettuce and carrots and he's acting like they are not even there. I tried dipping them in tuna juice and chicken broth and nothing. Other then those ways and jello shots any ideas to entice him to eat something other then a cricket

Just give him time. He will eat them when he gets hungry. Dont break down and feed him any of that other stuff she was feeding him.

I haven't I went 3days offering nothing but veggies. Today is day 4 so I threw a few pellets in the tank tomorrow morning I'm going to put lettuce in the tank again

Thats how my little turtle is but he is so young its normal

Yeah mine sliders didn't eat veggies until they were a little older but zim hasn't ever seen a veggie in his life so idk how long it will take to get him to eat them
