Hey everyone just wanted to check in. Its been a very crazy month for me as I have run into problem after problem. As I mentioned awhile back I bought a 75 gallon tank. I finally had the chance to put more water in when I found a renaflistar xp2 canister filter on craigslist for free. The lady complained it leaked. I began setting up the tank and noticed something scary...my tank had a leak. I brought it back to the guy I bought it from and had him reseal it. In the meantime I had the turtles back in the original 55 gallon tank. got the tank back and filled the water up a bit more. The turtles loved it and began swimming around like they were free. The basking area I built for them was good they loved it. Then I set up the canister filter again (it had been previously set up on the 55 gallon tank with no leaks. Set it up for the 75 gal...and it leaked BAD! The turtles went about a week with no filter before I figured out what the problem was. Someone opened it and left the power cord stuck between the pump compartment and the canister causing the leak. I also build a custom stand out of plywood, and 2x4's...this thing is a beast...i added so much support to be safe. So now the 75 gallon is filled almost to the top, with an above tank basking area. The light fixture holds a UVB bulb, and a UVA bulb. The canister filter has been running about a week in a 5 gallon tub (to avoid having to clean up another leak) without any signs of leakage. The 55 gallon tank now houses 3 Tiger Oscars which I know won't be sufficient for them forever but for now...their good. I recently came into another 75 gallon tank that will eventually house the Oscars.
Now the big surprise....
My friend went into a store and came out and handed me a cup...in the cup was a baby turtle no bigger then a quarter. The guy in the store had a bunch and gave my friend one (my friend's a regular in that store. I believe he's a painted turtle. My friend said the guy had too many was getting ready to "dump them in the street" I couldn't in good conscious let that happen so I took him. Right now he's going in a 30 gallon tank that my friend (same friend) had given me. My mother damn near flipped when I told her. She likes the turtles although she thinks their a bit creepy, but I knew once she saw the little guy/girl she would be fine with it. I currently had 5 tanks in my bedroom. 3 are set up and the fourth which will house the little guy will be set up soon. Now quite sure how to set it up for a turtle so small. Any ideas or recommendations would be great.
