General Care Discussion :: Outdoor pen for RES?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Instead of buying a UV bulb for my turtles, I put them outside in the sun in a kiddie pool during most of the day. (Yes, they also have a block to bask on.) I feed them in there, play with them a bit, take 'em out and put them in the grass so they can burrow...they love it. Though, I see they really enjoy that burrowing.

I was wondering if I should build a pen for them outside with the kind of wire that goes into the ground for rabbits and guinea pigs. I'm planning to only leave them in there for an hour or less a few days weekly, seeing as to how they can't eat out of water. The grass outside is clipped and their shells are dark, so there can't be a way I can lose them in the pen. They do burrow deep, though! I don't know if this is a good idea or not.
What're your opinions?

Thanks!

Ah, I still don't know. I don't think I'll do it. Kiddie pools are good enough for now. Maybe when they're bigger...

If I did want to do it, though, I live in Miami, FL. Weather is no concern for me at this time of year.

I wouldn't leave them out unless they can get back in the water. That way they'd be okay if they found something they wanted to eat or if they needed to go to the bathroom (they need water to help them do that, too) or if they just got hot or thirsty.
