General Care Discussion :: Why does my turtle do this?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

There is a life-size plastic turtle outside my RES enclosure and I noticed her checking it out. She is active when not basking, and swims back and forth. I picked up the fake turtle and followed her movement with it outside the glass. She started following it, where ever I moved it. I put the fake turtles' nose right up to the glass and my turtle swam right up to it, nose to nose. Then she raised her front feet just over her head and fluttered them, while her nose was touching the glass where the fake turtles' nose was. I wasn't sure when I first saw her do it, whether she was having some kind of seizure... But it seems the fake turtle can trigger this behavior any time. It is beautiful, but strange! Does anyone know what this is?

She just thinks its an actual live turtle and is saying hey this is my tank get out of my area. The fluttering to the fake turtle is your turtles dominance dance. Ive seen it done to fish, different objects, peoples hands.
