Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I have had Filbert about 2 1/2 years now. When I first got him, he was the size of a quarter... maybe a 50-cent piece. The guy I bought him off of could not give me a hatch date. Filbert's claws are INSANELY long, but his shell seems to be a bit small in comparison. The last I measured him, he was 3 1/2 inches long. He may be 4 inches now. Is there a "normal" rate that RES grow? Could his growth be stunted?

I will try to update with photos and measurements soon.

I lack enough growth information to provide an estimate of age and size. However, since it sounds like you have a male, he will be understandable smaller. His size sounds fine and if his shell looks good, then you're doing it right.

ive been having my turtle "voodoo" since early oct 2011.At that time his shell length (i m guessing he, coz he had an extra long tail which is still extra long and thick now) was a bit less than smaller 1.5 inches. assuming he was a couple of months at the time when i got him, he is now almost 11 months old . voodoo's shell now measures a bit more 3.75 inches . from all the web resources i could find , the maximum growth rate in one year i ve seen so far is 3.5 inches . but my turtle is just 10 -11 months old , hes hyper(rocket!) active , viciously begs for food when he sees me. his eyes, skin ,shell , nails, colour and activity looks perfect . i just wanted to know this kinda growth is normal.he loves any kinda foodstuff(i only feed whats permissible to turtles), not at all choosy, so he has a banquet every feeding time! i don't overfeed him. is it because of the feeding he has grown this rate. should i cut down on his intake?

How are the seams between his scutes? Are his scutes smooth? Have they been shedding?
