General Care Discussion :: Need info about these things

Hi my name Is Ramesh . I live in india .
First thing I want to know is
I got 2 baby res and in 4 days one of them died. The second one is doing well and growing. But he is alone . He is grown almost double the size . Now it had been 3 months since I got him. When I see him some times I feel bad that he is alone. Is it necessary to get another one ? if I get a new one he will be smaller than this fellow. Please suggest me what I should do.

Second thing I want to know is
I use ground water ( well) in my turtle tank. As tap water here has high chlorine . I found this water forming white colored layer on the tank walls after 15 days. I don't know if my turtle is suffering because of this water. So far he is doing ok. I have a filter in which I added carbon and ceramic rings. I don't think Peatmoss is available here. Please let me know if I should get one water softener. If I need to get a softener, are there any specifications that suits for this purpose.

How big were the babies when you got them? How big is the one you have now? It is not necessary to get another one. If you get another one, it is possible that they will get aggressive towards eachother and you would have to separate them now or later (depending on if/when the agression starts). You also need to consider if you have the ability to provide the environment that two RES need. Have you read about the amount of water they need, the size filter you need, etc.?

I don't know about the water. I know most people think you should use the stuff to remove chlorine from the water, because of the chemicals in it. I'm not sure about water softener, because I'm not familiar with it.

I agree, I would not bother with a second one. What kind of filter are you running? How much water is in the tank?

I have a tank that is 2ft width , 15 inch tall and 12 inch depth.I keep half tank filled with water. They were like 2 inch when I got them. Now the one I have is around 3 and half inch . I have a power filter it is also called as top filter . I kept ceramic rings and activated carbon in it. Here lettuce or dandelion is not available . I tried to give him carrot and green beans . But he doesn't show interest. I got reptomin from USA and giving him. He eats it well. I am trying to get water hyacinth .

Hi all
It is again me. I need a suggestion . I previously kept some rock for my turtle to bask. He doesn't bask much. I thought of giving more room for him at basking area , so I made a slight bigger area with some PVC pipes as stand and on top I kept a thin tile kind of rock. ( granite) . Since I kept new basking area in the tank . My turtle is moving around a lot. He is looking scared to get on the new basking area. But he moving continuously . For hours, please let me know .if I need to worry about this or it is because of new things in his tank.

Can you post a picture of it? How easy is it for them to climb on it?

I felt some how my turtle is not comfortable with his new basking place . So I switched back to his old setup. And reduced water a bit. Now he doesn't move a lot but he is not used to this as I have changed it . Will wait and see. Thanks so much for your help.

Keep in mind they don't like change too much, so it might take longer for them to get use to their environment.
