I own two Red Eared Sliders. I have had them going on 4 years now. I got them from one of the illegal turtle sellers, not knowing one thing about them. But I did my research and they are doing good. They have no pyramiding from what I know and can tell. They currently live in a 20 gallon long tank. This is the biggest tank I can afford and size permits (i am 15).
- I have no gravel in the tank, bare bottom.
They have a basking light and the turtle dock too.
I have a heater that keeps them at a constant 85 Fahrenheit
Before, I had a little cheap filter that was rated for 15 gallons. It was junk and conked out after 2 months.
Don't hate me, but they went 1 year filterless. I changed water every two months.
But my mom got on my case of how dirty the water was, so starting in January 2011, I started doing weekly %40 water change.
Fast forward to 8/3/12, I am browsing the classified ads, and see ad for Fluval 305 canister filter for $30. I snapped it up quicker than lightning, knowing this was what my turtles need.
All I have in the filter right now is carbon... I am not sure what other media to put. I can definitely say that the water is crystal clear now thanks to this powerful filter.
My questions for you are:
What media to put in canister filter?
What can I do to get poop that settles to bottom of tank?
If you would like me to take a photo of the turtles and tank, let me know.
PS... Is this forum tapatalk compatible?
