General Care Discussion :: buying a turtle

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I really wanted to buy the turtle from a breeder and not have to have it shipped to me. The people I got in contact lived 1.5 hours from my house but I was willing to make the drive! But 3 days in a row they said I could come pick one up and 3 days in a row they have blown me off! Is it really bad to have the little guy shipped to me? I see no alternative because pet stores don't sell baby turtles under 4 inches.

hi is there any spacific reason you want a babby. they tent to be a little harder to keep. i know they are cute. so you have to make that dicision for your self.
when you say they blew you off that means that they were not open or what?

i breed bearded dragons and ship them all the time. as long as it is over night that is no problem. but if they are only 1.5 hours away it is not worth it. the cost of overnight shiping is a lot. save the money buy turtle stuff. like a 40 gallon tank for a 4 inch red eared slider hahaha.

in cloasing if this breeded keeps blowing you off maby that tell you about them and there product.
best of luck.

They kept saying I could come pick one up on a day and then later tell me it wasn't a good day. They also kept asking me if I only wanted one, like I wasn't worth there time. Also, I offered to come to their house instead of meeting somewhere and they made it sound like they didn't want me to do that. I'm wondering if they didn't want me to see the conditions in which the turtles where being bred. I went ahead and overnighted one (we already have a 20 gallon setup ready for the little guy.) He should be here tomorrow morning :) woo hoo!! :)

That's exactly what I was thinking. They probably didn't want you to see the conditions that they are being kept in. Be sure to carefully check him over once he gets to you. And goodluck! :)

bubble1987: did you end up buying a turtle from that place or did you get it elsewhere?

I agree, they didn't want you to see their "setup".

I went ahead and decided to get one shipped. I got him overnighted from turtlesale [not reputable].com. He should be here sometime today. I will post pcs as soon as he arrives! :)
