Also, colors just fade.

i feed them reptomin floating food sticks with calcium and vitamin c and do u wont a pic of them now

I agree with Linus, it's normal. Have you tried other foods like veggies?

Yes, try some veggies. A pellet only diet is not good for them. They should have veggies everyday.

Oddly enough the UV they are receiving can effect the coloring as well. While I was doing maintnance I had my girls outside in natural light and their ear markings turned brighter and a slightly darker red. I had read on this forum before that another owner had a similar experiance with natural light vs. artificial light with their ear and shell coloring. Shedding can also play a factor with coloration after they shed a layer of skin they usually get more colorful.

Yeah - Penelope's ears were very dull, then at one point she was dry-docked and during that time I got her shell looking all polished. When she went back in the water her ears were bright again - I was so happy.
Now over time, the minerals in the water are dulling her shell and her ears are getting ruddy again. So maybe hard water plays a role too (I haven't figured that out yet).

i think it could be a little bit of everything... diet, shedding, light, aging.
Although my three turtles turned the opposite way - from faint orange to red.
so it might just be that every turtle has a different (ear) color cycle.

But...ummm...I guess that's why we have the forum.
If anyone cracked the turtle-code we would be bored.
I guess that's why I love my turtle. She is more challenging than a Suduko and far more fun.
