General Care Discussion :: Somebody explain "floating"problem.

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sun Mar 26, 2006 11:54 am   Somebody explain "floating"problem.

I've read the post under Urgent Care about somebody whose turtle that has a floating problem. What exactly is a floating problem? Is it where the turtle struggles to keep balance when swimming by itself? [(Note I have lazy turtles) read "Turtles that can't swim on their own" in this forum]. Is it where no matter how hard the turtle tries to swim down that it simply can't? Is it where the shell rises slightly to one side in the water?

i dont think the shell should raise on one side, and a healthy turtle shouldn't have problems floating i dont think.. my turtle floats but his hind raise up more than the front but thats only because of the filter's current...

Tilting to one side in the water could indicate a respiratory problem, especially if there are other symptoms. Not being able to submerge no matter how hard the turtle tries could indicate a number of conditions. Does your turtle have problems submerging or is he tilting to one side in the water?

No. I was just interested in this topic so I can pretty much have background knowledge of the symptoms in the case this happens (I hope not) .
