Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I am bringing my 2 RES to my classroom for show and tell. How long can they be out of water? Any easy transportation suggestions?

Thanks,
Eric

thats really not the best idea, it can stress them out not to mention if you drop them...dont bring them in for show and tell...

I agree that this may not be the best idea... but I'll answer you questions...
First, I suggest that a parent brings them and then takes them directly back home after. Transport them separately in a small container with a damp towel. Keep them cool but don't leave them in a draft or in the sun. Don't pass them around the classroom and don't let anyone pet them. If anyone does touch the turtles, make sure they thoroughly wash their hands.
Depending on your turtle (age and temperment) this may not be such a good idea. Hatchlings are more sensitive to change in environment and stress. I'd say the biggest problem with this is that the turtle can't do anything if he gets too dry, hot or cold. They can be out of the water for some time, but don't let them get dried out. Make sure they stay a comfortable temperature.

I also think that I would be extremely stressful for the turtles. I'm sure there are better ideas for show and tell...

Take some pictures of your turtles and show the pictures to the class. :)
