General Care Discussion :: laying eggs question

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I have 2 RES turtles, one female one male. When I first got the female, she layed eggs about a week after she came to live with us. Her house was set up as follows;
40 gallon long critter cage 1/2 full of water with a bark and gravel basking spot.

She is acting as if she needs to lay eggs again, but her and her buddy are now in the following enclosure:
70 gallon fish tank 3/4 full of water with a turtle rock for basking.

Lighting/water temp. etc are the same as before. I read that females should go in several inches of soil in order to lay eggs. So I now have her in the 40 gallon long critter cage with 2 big bags of jungle bark that is moistened. She also has several flate rocks for basking near the basking spot which are directly under the basking light. There is no water in the tank, but we are misting her to keep her moist. The second she got into the jungle bark, she started to dig a hole and has been playing around in it ever since. she has been in there about 4 hours...no eggs.

My question (yes I know, finally) Is it safe/OK for her to stay in the jungle bark for a few days with just misting every few hours? or should she go back into her tank with her buddy, and then try this scenario again in a few days to see if she lays then?

Thanks for the help in advance.
