General Care Discussion :: Turtle Concave Scute

One of my turtles scutes is starting to dip inwards almost concave.....what would be causing it also a couple others have some ripples in them......he is due for a shed and seems to be retaining his baby scutes....when he sheds will this fix itself? what could be causing this?.....I had been overfeeding him at first which had led to some rapid growth as I didn't know better and was feeding based on what the food container said, about 2 months ago I cut him back to 5-6 pellets a day and lettuce/kale daily.....occasional other veggies....and the occasional treat of dried shrimps....his UVB is about 4 months old and the basking/UVA is new....basking spot is at 90ish degrees

also when he is basking and his shell dries out it changes color and gets duller almost hazy looking like a film is on it....once he jumps back in it all goes back to normal.....is this due to him needing a shed...also should mention I got one of those turtle bones like you give to birds, thought it might help his shell condition

There is a good chance that someone will come along and ask you to post a pic or 2 before giving a concrete diagnosis to what the issue is. It's kinda like "seeing" the doctor, in most cases they want to see you to give you a 100% diagnosis.

Also, about the dullness issue when the turtle is dry: that is pretty common. For instance, my truck always looks more vibrant when wet compared to dry.

A picture would be helpful but it's usually from inconsistent feeding and/or lack uvb/calcium.
