1) Yawara's shell has some raised patterns to it. He still has many original scutes (including the one with the white mark that's always been there) so I'm trying to figure out if this is normal shedding? They feel weird - plasticky - but I wouldn't say the shell itself is pliable. I've included pics below.
2) I recently put anacharis in my tank to mitigate some of the toxins (and knowing the turtles would eat them). Yawara had some leaves clinging to his face, so I picked him up out of the tank to clean them off and he got mad as he usually does, but this time he started opening and closing his mouth and spitting bubbles from the corners of it. He hasn't done that before and he did it the whole time I had him out. Some of the bubbles were clear, some were murky and slightly whitish. He didn't make wheezing sounds though. Is this just an angry reaction or something I should be concerned for? Anybody else's turtles done this when being held? (Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I'm always a little nervous about new behaviors like this...)
