Do you need a screen or a cover for your tank? I've seen some with one and some without one and I currently don't have one. I have 2 RES and they have never climbed or tried climbing out. So would it be recommended that I have one? Or am I okay without one?

If they can reach the top of the tank when standing (just imagine the legs and arms extended) then use a cover, because once they get a hold hold of the ledge anything is possible.
If not, then no worries unless you are afraid of something getting in like another household pet or something.

I concur with penelope. I have a screen because I have three curious cats, but my water level is low enough I don't think I'd have one otherwise. Well, maybe I would. I'm a worry wart.

My male RES Spot keeps climbing out too. I need to get a cover for his tank.

I cut up the mesh /net that you get when you buy fruits and slip it over my aquarium, seems to work well. Its all bright in colour so they see it and are smart enoguh to stop trying after a few attempts
