General Care Discussion :: Help with breeding!!

I'm going to breed Delilah and Sandy. I have everything I need, and will be referring to this website for guidelines and the process: http://reslider.free.fr/backup/breeding.html

I have questions:

1. Is that website good guidelines?

2. Can I use a 19 gallon Rubbermaid clear-blue container for the nesting area, and then for the hatchlings' tank? (I could buy a 20g tank but rather not... )

3. Can I breed my 7 inch female, Delilah, with my 6-6.5 inch male, Sandy?

Why do you want to breed them? Do you plan on keeping the hatchlings? RES are seriously overpopulated. There are so many already that need good homes I wouldn't want to breed them.

Yes, I am planning on keeping them. The only way I would part with them is if I seen everything they need with the person interested with my own eyes. Trust me. I am NOT going to let them go to nothing. I am what I like to refer to as a "rescuer." I got 3 RES, and getting 2 more and a baby Painted this weekend.

But anyway, I am planning on keeping them, so no worries about that. I am already aware of the fact that they are overpopulated and evasive. I am not releasing them. I just want to do this once, so I know what I'm doing if I ever plan on breeding a more rare, perhaps endangered species. And, I am expecting my female, Delilah getting gravid soon, so I want to give her a chance of being a momma-turtle.

I agree. If you want more and have the room for them, take some in. These guys can live for decades, not many people can take them or have willing family members to take them.
