Hi,

I am getting ready to change the filters on my fluval 106, I got new carbon, biomax and sponges. (I've had it running in my 25 gal tank for about 3 months now, without changing any filters yet). I did some google searching, and now know that I don't really have to change the biomax at all (I may even take this product back to petsmart and get my money back). This is where the biological colonies grow, and can just keep growing on the same biomax indefinately.
My question is, I usually clean everything out with our well water, which is not chlorinated, but does have some sulphur in it (eggy smell - we are in SW Florida). Is this bad?
Can I clean my filter parts in this? Or should I strictly be using tank water to clean everything. I like using the hose, because I can put it on jet setting and the sponges really get the gunk blasted off easily. Maybe I should then do a final rinse in tank water.

Thanks for any advice

I think you should be okay to rinse in well water. I usually do a water change at the same time I clean my filter. I fill a bucket halfway with tank water and squeeze out the sponges and biomedia in it.
