General Care Discussion :: Question about shedding

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

My turtle started shedding 3 weeks ago and right now he's still shedding, he's already shed his scutes and some on his legs, but he's still shedding, as well as right now i'm noticing that his shell is getting a little well... bumpy, some scutes are higher then others. SO the questions i have are wether it's normal for him to shed so long, and wether the shell is caused by shedding or his diet (i read that on ATP)

It takes some turtles longer to shed than others. I have a year and a half old eastern painted whose scutes are just lifting off, his siblings are taking longer to shed. Has your turtle shed all his scutes?

The bumpiness could be from what he's being fed---too much in quantity and/or too too much protein in the diet can result in a bumpy looking shell. What are you feeding him, how much do you give at a feeding and how often do you feed him?

What are the temps of the water and basking area?
