General Care Discussion :: Goldfish eating Turtles food

Hi !
I have just set up my aquarium with two hatchlings in it + 2 pretty big gold-fish..
(i took bigger goldfish to avoid the turtles eating them)...
So every morning i feed the goldfish first.... and then i feed the turtles, but the bigger goldfish just pushes the turtles away and eat the turtles food
I tried to feed the fish first so they would be less hungry and then feed the turtles, ... or tried to wait for the turtles to be on the other side of the tank to feed them ... but the fish are always pretty quick to get to the turtle food first before the turtles get to it...

Any suggestion on how to keep this from happening ?
I think i will move the fish to a separate thank soon though....

Get a Tupperware container and feed the turtle in that. Many here do that for cleanliness. Many turtles will poo in that, which keeps the tank cleaner. The added bonus is that it gets your turtle used to handling.

This will always be an issue, i have a 300 gallon pond and 2 maps and 1 RES and about 20 good sized goldfish, I could feed the fish 3x a day, and they STILL will eat the pellets or lettuce when i put it in for the turtles. it is better to NOT have the fish for multiple reasons. Stealing the food is one, polluting the water, if the fish are bigger than the turtles they can stress them out.

I bought my Skimmer a few minnows a couple months ago and he only ate one. The other has become his "buddy" and he refuses to even try to chase him or make any attempt to eat him. The other one he ate was grey, but this one is orange. Perhaps he just prefers the grey one, who knows. It has become quite comical to see them eating together and the minnow not being scared of him at all now.
