Hey Turtle friends,

I'm the proud owner of 3 RES Turtles, Mikey (4months old) Penelope & Squirt (3months old), I am very concerned about one of my turtles growth. Mikey is the oldest RES turtle and hasn't grown. Penelope and was the same size as Mikey when i got her and Squirt, and Squirt was so tiny he was like the size of quarter! Currently both Penelope and Squirt have doubled in size! Squirt is now larger then Mikey.

Mikey got sick after the first 6week that i had him, he got an eye infection. Both his eyes swelled shut, so we made sure to clean his eyes everyday, twice a day. We applied turtle eye drops every day twice a day. He wasn't eating, or swimming in that time period. I would place pellets and turtle treats right in front of his nose hoping he would smell it and try to eat it. I never seen him eat it but when i would check back on him it was gone. Penelope would carry him on her back and move him around, when he would fall off the dock she would help him back up since he couldn't see. All in all, It took 2 weeks for him to get better, but i'm pleased to say he got better! When i remove the turtles to clean the tank i started noticing that PENELOPE HAD DOUBLED IN SIZE! Squirt himself was now larger then Mikey...which brought it to my attention that he isn't growing.

Currently he has been basking a lot, when he swims i've noticed he is shedding around his neck. He isn't socializing with Penelope & Squirt as much anymore. Any advice?

Diet: Turtle Treats (krill) every other day. Turtle sticks, about 4-5 sticks each...but its more like who ever can get their claws on it first. Most of the time they all eat about the same amount. (i watch them)

In a bale, there is usually a turtle that will easily outcompete the others for food. Skip the krill and feed them all separately. Do not be concerned about getting Mikey to "catch up" in size, feed the normal portions (or even a bit less since there is usually a tendency to overfeed).

Thanks Steve, I think i'm going to take him out right now and put him in the small plastic tank i got him in for at least 2 hrs in hopes that he'll eat with no need to compete for the food. I must admit Penelope is a bit aggressive when it comes to feeding time and she is a total beast!

You will have better luck leaving him in his regular tank and taking out Penelope. Penelope sounds like my female RES... she'd blast through a wall if there were pellets on the other side.
