Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Ok, so I bought a little over a dozen feeder fish for Leo yesterday. He went hunting and now there are three left, but the water is a little foggy now, probably from the messy eating.

How do I go about changing the water with feeder fish still in the tank? Do I put them in a bowl with the same water? and then how do I reintroduce them without the temp change shocking them to death?

I just leave mine in the tank. I drain all but about three of four inches and then be sure to get the water as close the original temp as possible. I have never 'shocked' the fish with the temp change. It's easier than catching them and getting them back in...especially since I have more than 3.

I do the same as missibu.. It's been awhile since I did a complete and total water change because of feeder fish.. finally got the last one gone.. FINALLY!!! So yesterday the tank got dismantled and a through cleaning. Trying to catch all those tiny fast minnows in a 75 gallon tank was near to impossible..

My turtles have lost interest in the guppies. I must have like 5 or 6 dozen in there. I am thinking about giving them away on freecycle. I'm sure that other people around here could use them for something. The turts eat a few, but they aren't keeping the population down, and I don't want them overeating them. We all know that too much protein isn't good.

I scoop my fish out of the tank for cleaning. I just keep them in a bowl till I'm done. I wait for the tank to get back up to it's normal temp, then poor them back in.

Just empty the tank until you have just enough space for the fish to stay alive and then refill it.

Thanks guys! I've already accidentally killed 2 feeder fish in the past by pouring them back and forth, so I think I'll just leave some water from now on!
