General Care Discussion :: Needing advice!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hello! Needing some advice on my RES. I've been a turtle parent for 4 years now. My turtle is a very active boy, and by that I mean he loves to escape his tank...I have a 50 gallon tank for him, which has an open side for the filter and heater to slip through, he regularly climbs out of the side, no matter how I try to block it, and escapes. He started doing this the second year I had him, so I did some research and thought he could be trying to hibernate, so I made a hibernation habitat for him and he hibernates from November- April. I'm needing some advice on how to fix this behavior. His tank is big enough for his size, with proper water heaters, filtration systems, basking lights, you name it. It seems to me like he's bored. I regularly take him outside so he can walk around. Help!!!

Hi, you most likely need a new tank. The tank may be 50 gallons but half of it is unusable. Can you tell us more about his hibernation setup?
