Two weeks ago I finally updated my turtle to a larger tank (40 gallon breeder). I thought he would be thrilled with all the extra space! However, it seems that all he wants to do is hide. I gave him places to hide, plants for privacy, put up a background... all to make him feel more secure, but he still just wants to hide in a corner. The water is testing fine. He is still eating, although I put in some feeder fish to try to entice him, and he is literally ignoring them. They can sit right in front of his face and he doesn't care. This is not like him at all! Usually he is always swimming around, begging at the front of the tank when I come over. It's just so odd.
The only thing I can think of (besides the shock in change) is that his dock is no longer suitable for him. He is too big and it just sinks under his weight. It worked in the other tank with less water, but now that it has to float higher up it just doesn't hold him. Anyway, I took it out and ordered him a new one. It will finally be in tomorrow. In the mean time I have been taking him out and dry docking him so he is still sunning. Maybe this is part of the problem?
Has anyone had anything similar happen before? Any tips or advice? I'm just so worried about him because he's just not himself. Thank you!
