General Care Discussion :: Nesting Question

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Supposedly, Tilly is 3 years old (she is 8 inches) and I know that they can be ready to lay eggs by that age. I have no idea if she has laid any in the past.

I've read about the signs (trying to climb out, restlessness, etc) and she isn't doing any of that. She is very content and happy. I also felt under her back legs and don't feel anything. (I've read that you should be able to feel if they have eggs inside)

My question is should I have a nesting area ready and put her in it periodically, or wait until she shows signs?

She is so much happier and I think healthier (and definitely cleaner!) :) since I got her and changed the way she had been living, but since I figured out that she is a girl I have been so worried about this egg thing! :)

I think as long as you are ready, that's all that matters. You know to watch for the signs and you know you need a special nesting area when the time comes. That is what's really important, so you will be prepared to help her when she's ready.

If you want to go ahead and create her nesting area and introduce her to it, I don't think it would hurt anything. :)
