Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

We unfortunately lost our baby RES, Tulip, today- and has I was reviewing the sight - I started thinking about some behavioral things he was doing. Is burying normal? Tulip wold always try to dig down into the gravel or under the filter... or when we let i walk aroud outside the second he could burrow down he would. Any ifo is appreciated I would like to apply all new knowledge to a 'new' Tulip.

How big was Tulip?

Were there any signs of trouble breathing, swollen crusty eyes, muscus?

There is a higher mortality rate among hatchlings.

I'm sorry for you loss!

I am sorry for your loss.

My young turtle (under 4 inches) would dig into the ground the first few times I took him outside..

He was about two inches- no did not have any eye problems or breathing problems. Just noticed he would try to burrow down in his tank, or the first opportunity he had outside when we'd let him wander. Our sad tale is posted under Urgent care- but really it was so sad don't read it unless you want to. Thank you for your info and responses. I am just trying to figure out what happened to him, if there were any clues to him passing... But I don't think I'll ever know. I hope we will get another- this is a wonderful sight and the peeps are great too! Thank you!

Sorry about Tulip (read the thread under Urgent Care). It does sound like he overheated from what you wrote.
