That doesn't look like normal shedding to me. I would say it's a fungus. Not to sure what to tell you other than I would get your guy to a herp vet ASAP.

Is that spot raised? Does it ooze? Smell? Is it soft or hard? (If you are brave enough to touch it)

For a list of herp vets, check the sticky at the top of the urgent care section.

it doesnt ooze or smell, it kinda looks like his shell has been rubbing it. tiny pieces are coming off of it. And he still has quite an appeitite.

Either way, get him to a vet soon. Good luck.

That does look like a fungus. Is it only on the neck or is it on the tail and legs as well?

If you go to http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/medshell.htm and click on white/brown sking patches, there are instructions for home treatment. If you do this and don't find it working, however, it would be best to make that drive to the herp vet.

You could try calling nearby vets and see if they have ever treated turtles. I've recently found out that a vet only 20 minutes from me actually treats turtles although he doesn't see many of them in his practice. However, his experience is very good with turtles, as he has treated my friend's turtles.
