General Care Discussion :: Trying to escape

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Tue Aug 22, 2006 1:17 pm   Trying to escape

hey there so my turtle for the past few weeks has tried to manage an escape from his encloser by standing on the filter and such. This behavior isn't something to be worried about is it?? He eats regularly and basks and everything else seems to be in order.

Thanks

Turtles are great escape artists which is why we have to "escape proof" their habitats just like toddler-proofing your home. Just be sure that you leave enough space at the top of the tank that he can not climb out when he stands on the basking dock etc.

I've moved the filter so he can't stand on it and I'm pretty sure he can't get out yet! But he is being upgraded to a bigger home soon so hopefully he will have enough space not to try and escape  They are really good at it also re-decorating is another pastime mine has.

Thanks

Zeke has gotten out of his old tank twice, but his new one for now has chicken wire on the top, until my hubby gets his hood built with the new basking spot....which will be enclosed.

Re-decorating seems to be a favorite pastime for just about all turts... lol!
I've resigned myself to having "turtle-tanks" instead of "pretty" ones...

Ah, amazingcc, beauty/pretty is in the eye of the beholder (in this case your turtles). :)
