hello everyone! i've been gone a while but both i and leo are still kicking. 8) i will post pics when i can of my cool new tank and setup in my new house, but as always, i have a quick question. i have a suction soap holder with a rock on it for his dock now (about $3.50 as opposed to $17 for a real turtledock!) and when i change the water, the rock always feels very hot to me. like, too hot to hold comfortably. but he just basks on it all day long, and i'm wondering if they can feel if something is too hot. the last thing i want is heat blisters or something bad like that. :( it doesn't seem to hurt him to get on it... but i just don't know if he can tell. i also have another dock with only the non-slip drawer lining stuff on it, no rock but he seems to prefer the one with the rock. i haven't seen any visible signs of burning, but he won't exactly hold still enough for me to get a good look at his feet... anyways, i just was wondering how good their heat perception is!

What kind of reading to you get with a themometer laying on the rock? Is it possible that the temp needs adjusting?

90-95F is fine, though I would get a decent thermometer to measure the temperature. What is the water temp? That might explain why he prefers to bask.

the water temp changes between about 72 and 75, it gets colder at night. i know thats a bit cold for as small as he is, but i think he will be ok. :) i have a heater for the winter but im not sure i need to set that up for 2 degrees. it never goes colder than 72, and when it starts to i'll plug in ye olde heater. he has just recently gotten strong enough to start moving the branch thats in there and bumping it around the tank 8/ so i'll be looking at an acrylic tank so he doesn't break it!
