This last week has been a disaster. I broke my ankle, found out Dog has worms and one of my res isn't eating and looks like she has shell rot. *sigh* I have to bring Dog in to be weighed so they can give me the right dosage of meds. I just hope it's not injections. If it's oral, how am I supposed to get his little mouth open?

First, I'm sorry to hear about all your misfortunes. Hope you, the dog and the turtle start feeling better soon.

For oral medications, I've read that some people inject the meds into a cricket and feed it to the turtle. You might want to try that.

You could irritate him, rub his cheeks, q-tip him so he opens up in an attempt to vanquish his attacker. Then drop the medicine (probably not good tasting) and he'll close his mouth and withdraw in defeat.

My turtle's archenemy is the q-tip. He attacks them the moment he sees one. He must not like it when I clean him.

That's probably a good way to get his mouth open.

Well, if your vet is gonna do a normal run of Baytril, it's usually 3 shots and done. My Bozo ate something he shouldn't have awhile back and ended up getting them. However, if its more than 3 shots then you have to administer it orally. Boze didn't need any more but she went over the procedure with me, just in case. First of all, its a two person operation. Someone has to hold the turt, the other has to administer the meds. When she did it, (she made it look so easy) all she did was rub a small wooden tounge depressor, about the size of a popsickle stick under his chin, which caused him to immeadeatly open his mouth, then she just placed the tounge depressor in it to hold it open. I hope you and your pals recover ASAP!

Wow, sorry about the run of bad luck. If he's got worms, I don't think he'll be getting Baytril. Depending on what the med is, you may be able to add it to his food.

I don't remember what the med is called but I'm picking it up today. It's gonna be a really small dose every other day for a week or so. I asked the vet how I'm supposed to get his mouth open when, not only can he tuck in his head, but he can close up his shell. He said "I don't know" and then laughed I asked him if injecting it into his feeder worms would work and he said if I had the stomach for it, to go right ahead. Wish me luck.

He couldn't identify the worms but said they were parasitic
