General Care Discussion :: Milk Bath?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Sun Sep 10, 2006 11:39 pm   Milk Bath?

My girlfriend / Pokey's Grandma insists that giving a turtle a milk bath is a great idea, good for their shell, etcetera. I have never heard that here and it seems totally unlikely that turtles in the wild would ever find themselves in a bucket of milk. I therefore doubt this is useful or good for turtles, but I decided to ask and make sure.

She says her grandma used to have a turtle which she gave a milk bath all the time and it had a great shell and looked generally shiny and healthy.

Someone please lay down some knowledge on me.

I DO NOT think its a good idea. If she is concerned with the condition of the turtle's shell she should use a tooth brush and use that to get whatever is built up on its shell off.

I would guess it isn't a great idea. The calcium seems good, but there is the issue of lactose as well, and turtles ingest what they bathe in..
