i just bought a baby RES which i carefully picked out of the bunch. brought him home and realized he a like no tail. its this clear bubbe thing and he looks like he's constipated and is trying to push it out. he sticks his head and and extends it as if pushing and the thing from his butt extends.

i just lost my turtle amigo and decided to get another one, but this one already has something wrong with it! please help!

Is the tail missing from a genetic defect or from an injury? Does it look raw or is it bleeding? If you are only buying your turtles from illegal sellers, then it is not uncommon for there to be problems. If this is an injury, I would consult a vet for his/her opinion.

How big is your turtle? I'd don't know if this is right or not (someone with more experience with hatchlings would know) but if he is small, could it be the yolk sack that you see?

I would take him to the vet and have them take a look at it. You have to be careful with hatchlings, they can die pretty quickly if something goes wrong.

I'm a little confused.

frioverte, this is the same hatchling that you wrote about in another post that is sleeping all the time and has a soft shell (did you read the response to your post about this?)? Did that turtle die and you bought another one?

How much of the tail is left? Is what the turtle appears to be pushing out part of it?

It sounds like the turtle is in need of a herp vet...
