I, for one have never heard of anyone getting electrified by a water heater, all water heaters these days have safety cut offs built into them.
That being said, perhaps you should sit your mum down and show her all of the threads you have posted on this forum. I've read them all, and it clearly shows you want to really give this poor turt a better life than what it had in the past. Maybe then she will realize that you mean business and relent to your heater demands. You've come too far to give up now.....

If she still refuses, you can get a less effective zoo meds terrarium heater that sticks to the under side off the tank. It is made for dry terrarium, but if you buy the biggest one it may raise the water temp without a real water heater. But you really should get a real water heater.

If she is really that worried then tell her to call an electrician and have the electrician install a GFCI outlet our circuit.

What is GFCI? Read this: http://www.redearslider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5028

Although water heaters are made for fish aquariums, turtles are much more active than fish. You should be using a GFCI outlet with all your equipment anyway and if there are still concerns, then use a plastic coated heater like the Visitherm Stealth or another reputable heater with a guard. A terrarium heater really won't cut it.

Not having stable water temperatures will do greater harm than the possibility of electrocution.

He finally ate something today, I convinced my mother to get me a Stealth Heater, his water temp is 78 degrees celsius. When I gave him 4 Nutrafin pellets, he gobbled em up like crazy!

But, I have noticed that he spends more time sleeping on the filter than normal.
Can the effects of pyramiding be reversed?

The condition can be lessened with a proper diet and habitat. The extent to which this can be done depends on the age of your turtle and the extent of the pyramiding.

My turtle's seven years old, but only barely 4 inches, and how bad is the pyramiding in the two pics I provided (Sorry about the shoddy photography, hehe)?
