General Care Discussion :: How long can a RES hold breath for?

My res sleep in the water all night long because I turn off the basking lighting when I go to sleep. My 70 degree room temp doesnt make them come out the water. So they cling to something and fully submerged for all night long. Anybody know for how long a turtle can hold one breath?
Off course I turn the lights back on as soon as I wake up, they have enough 16 hours of sun shine

Aquatic turtles can stay under water for 30 minutes, some for less - some for more. Aquatic turtles are able to store oxygen in their blood and muscle tissue which allows them to stay underwater for long periods of time. During the night, a turtle will actually come up for air every so often, when they need to.

Sea turtles have been known to stay under water for up to 5 hours.

My vet told me that this kind of turtles have air sacks inside, so kinda like an air tank for them to breathe within....is that right?

Actually turtles can stay underwater for hours when sleeping..

Yeah, since they're not moving at all, their heart rate slows down, just like us..

It depends on how active the turtle is.

What is the water temp? Is there a heater for the water?

78, my water heater is designed for turtles and frogs, preset at 78 degrees, as my vet suggested
