General Care Discussion :: heat concern..

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

This may sound paranoid, but I am really worrying about what will happen if we loose power here for a couple days. It hasn't happened for a few years, but there have been times when power has been out for a couple of days, and it gets cold in the house as well as dark. I can move the turtles into a smaller container to regulate temp via gas powered water heater, but what about cold air temps and basking? I have no idea how to help that. Anyone have a good turtle emergency plan to share with me?

I don't have a good plan, but look forward to what others have to say, we get some power outages here, and it's always good to be prepared.

Going without the lighting wouldn't be as much of a concern as the cold water.

Two things that I remember reading from the past...covering the tank and insulating it with blankets to help hold the heat in. And, heating water using your car. I don't remember the details of the second one, but maybe someone else does.
