General Care Discussion :: my RES threw up?

i was watching my RES swim and then all of a sudden he stopped and looked like he was choking,very shortly after he started throwing up this grey liquid stuff,my guess is that it was the pellets i fed him today.i imediately changed the water and scrubbed/washed everything a vet apoinment was already scheduled for monday and is still on,both of them are going,the water temp is 82 degrees and basking temp is 91 degrees,the turtle that threw up is a bit overweight(grew faster than the other one) so i think it has something to do with that?

has it happened to anyone?

Did it happen right after feeding? Or a while after? Sometimes i get nervous of that when i feed my baby RES's. One seems to try to eat as much as she can with out swollowing, almost like i can look in her mouth and still see some of it in the back of her mouth/throat.

That's the only connection i have with that. mine has only "spit" i think more like it floated out, one time. But she ate it while it was 1/2 in and 1/2 out of her mouth.

it was 8 hours after feeding time,but he actually like threw up! he looked like he was gagging!

mine dosent do anything of that sort. Mine is only knowticable during feeding. i' dont know what to guess.

i think what your turtle is doing is normal,my other turtle is messy when it comes to eating she eats and spits out little bits of pellets.

You may be overfeeding your turtle. If you overfeed them, it is possible for them to throw up from too much food! Cut the amount of food you are feeding him to about 1/2 the amount for the next day or two and see if he throws up again. Then make sure you are only feeding them an amount that would fit inside the turtle's head if it was hollow.

Turtles can get stomachaches just like people can and throwing up can happen hours after a feeding. In the past when Sheba threw up, I would skip a feeding day & then make sure I don't feed her as much the next time. This always resolved the problem for her. Sometimes they are like kids....their stomachs can get upset for no reason & then they throw up.

Also, turn down the temp a few degrees....82 is way too high for the water temp. (78 maximum).
