Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I have a one-year-old RES that is very happy and healthy but for some reason it bites its front left arm. It will do this several times an hour while basking on its rock. So far, it hasn't broken the skin but I am worried one day it will. Anybody know anything about this?

Is this a continuous problem, or something that just happens occassionally? Could just be an itch.

maybe your turtle is shedding and just peeling skin off of itself.

Mine has been doing this for years. Sometimes she does it just because she is trying to bite at the loose (filmy) skin that is falling off. Other times it looks like she is just itching herself. Nothing to worry about.

What's your turtle's diet like?
