Now that I have a 110 gallon tank, water changes have become a little more difficult, I can no longer buy water from the grocery store and fill up the tank. If I use tap water, I've heard that you can only use cold water. Is this true? Our house is about 6 years old if that helps you estimate the calcium build up, we have a water softener too. Can I use a mixture warm tap water? Also, is it fine if I use this ReptiSafe water conditioner? Are there any other water conditioners that are turtle safe that you can buy in bulk?

I found this gallon of water conditioner and was wondering if this will work. What kind do you guys use?

The one I provided removes chlorine and chloromine. I think that's what required and it's very cheap.

I've only ever used tap water. There's nothing wrong with using that. Just use some water conditioner to remove any chlorine. I use Reptisafe. No need to buy in bulk. You only need 1 tspn for every 5 gallons of water.

That's what I thought also, the whole when water is heated up it deposits its garbage in the pipes. The thing is, I'd have to use 22 tspn for every water change, and I'm not sure how many uses I'd get.

8.75 oz divided by 22 tspn? Means I would get about 2 and a half full water changes out of the bottle. This reptisafe is sold in small packages because it's purpose is to make safe drinking water.

You said your water goes through a water softener. Does that mean you have well water? If you do, the water shouldn't be chlorinated, and you don't really need to use anything to remove chlorine.

If you do, however, have chlorinated water, Reptisafe works well. I used to use it when I used chlorinated city water. It removes both chlorine and chloramine.

I don't want to use reptisafe because it's sold in small packages and is expensive if you use a lot of it. The 2 water conditioners I linked to above remove chlorine and chloramine. That's basically all turtles need removed right? Could you check out those two links I provided and tell me if both will work?

I'd be curious to know what the those essential oils in the first product are...I'd go with the Amquel. I've read it has a good reputation from people who have used it.

I assume it's just aloe vera (sp) I guess I'll buy the gallon of Amquel and see how long it lasts. Actually I'll search for Amquel PLUS because it removes nitrites and nitrates which can be harmful to turtles especially nitrites from what I've heard...

They both seem about the same to me other than price.. not sure if it will really matter. Although I'm not an expert in this area.. I have well water and never had to use it for my turtles.
