i came across some stuff the other day, and i wasnt sure if it was worth a buy or not... its a liquid you put in the water that is supposed to keep the tank cleaner by helping break down bodily wastes and excess foood... is that stuff actually worth buying>?

YES, this stuff WORKS great. It has been a god-send to me because my turtle is a full-grown adult with full-grown waste. This stuff, when used with a water filter & regular water changes, will keep your tank water sparkling clean with no smell.

It does NOT prevent algae, but keeps all the nasty stuff from building up & is safe for use long-term. I've been using this in Sheba's tank for the last 4 yrs since I first discovered it at the pet store.

I should mention also that I do feed my turt in a separate laundry container filled with water to also help maintain the water clarity. Cloudy/dirty tank water is NOT allowed in my house!

If you're talking about Turtle Clean I wouldn't bother. I tried it once and it left a white film all over everything. Some people say if you use half the recommended amount per gallon it works but to me it's a waste. If you've got a good filter you don't need stuff like that.

I use it and haven't had the problem with a white film that Jen has had. Maybe there's a difference in the chemistry of the water.

I think it helps. Between the filter, minnows and Turtle Clean I don't get a buildup of waste in the tank, or have (strong) odors.

I wouldn't bother with it either. A good filter and keeping the water quality up should be sufficient.

I used it in my 10 gal tank which was my original setup because it had a small fitler. I mean it was big enough for the tank but the problem was that i could look up through the water and see something on the surface of the tank. When i used the additive it helped for a few days.

Now that i'm on to my 55 gal tank, i find that my filter with biological media, and that is roughly 3 times to larg for the tank, i dont have the issue. Clean water is not a problem... Then again my little girls are under 2"

I have used it several times and like it. It's nice for when my filter decides to quit working in the middle of the night and the next day the tank stinks to high heavens. It also helps keep the levels of ammonia and nitrates down in his tank. I use it maybe once a week if that.

I try to use the least amount of chemicals in any of my tanks. The more chemicals in the tank equals more chances for "allergic" reactions. I agree, invest in a powerful and reliable filter and you won't need a chemical to break down wastes.

Same with me. I think regular, partial water changes are far more beneficial than relying on chemicals.
