That's similar to how I have it, though I have holes drilled into it. Aside from reducing the splashing, a few things will happen:

The plexiglass will eventually warp and curve in. When this happens, it will be slightly more noisy.
Mildew slowly builds on the tank behind this area... at least it did for me. Not a big deal if you clean your tank on a regular basis.
This really limits water circulation to the area around the filter. I have an XP3 at the opposite end of the tank.

Muirner, partial water changes in between cleanings will add more oxygen to the water.

CrossKnight, is that stuck on with tape? When I attached the plexiglass, I used aquarium silicone and stuck it right on the lip (the edge of the plexiglass is flush with the top of the lip, and the plexiglass covers the lip). I don't think the plexiglass I'm using is as thick as yours, though.

I never thought of that marisa. I only lose about a 1/2 gal to a full gal of water a day due to evaporation. I of course replace it daily/semi daily.

I will be covering one end to hopefully slow the total evaporation. But i'll need to start taking more water out i guess.

hmmm, i didnt think of that marisa. I only take out about a gal or two every week. I assume i lose about a 1/2 a gal or so every day due to evaporation. I will be covering one half of my tank soon.

I'm sure I loose 1/2 gallon a day - or more. I know because of how much I have to keep replacing.
