If you've ready any of the posts on here about tank cleaning, you'll know that many of us use what is called a Python Clean and Fill. Saves a lot of time and effort :)

Yes, you definitely don't need to move the tank in order to do a good cleaning. With the bigger tanks, that would be impossible anyway.

The gravel vacs will work alright for water changes. I currently use one, and have no problems. It works well, but the thing is, the flow of water puts it into a bucket, which now you must lug. This is ok, for water changes around 5gal or so, but more then that and your looking for a workout.

I found a new way to remove just water from the tank, or maybe even clean the "suspended crap" by the intake. (this is using an XP3). If you connect the hoses to the top of the canister cover, and push the lever down, both will drain, but the intake one will keep sucking water out, just like a syphon. I needed to drain my intake to try to clean the tube. But i found it's a good tool to remove water as well. Reprime and your off.
