General Care Discussion :: SNAPPING!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Ok. One turtle snapped at the otehrs face, but the other had food in his mouth that I think the first was trying to steal. He didn't seem to do any damage, but do I need to look at this as a sign of aggression, or is it just the whole competing for food issue? I have not seen any other behavior suggesting aggression. ???

Sounds like he was just hungry! They are like dogs, very territorial over their food. If they fight too much when together, then feed them in separate areas. That way you will always know how much food each one is getting. :)

Yup, you should separate them when feeding. I saw someone's adult RES almost bite off a hatchling's head because it was eating near it.

That sounds really horrible Steve! I will try to feed them seperately. I will need to put them in seperate containers because Spike eats way faster than Sparky, and will then try to swim over and steal his food too if I feed them in seperate parts of the same tank.
