sorry to start another post on determining gender. i didn't find other similar topics helpful.

okay, other than the from paw nail, what else should i look for when trying to determine the gender of my little thing. my turtle is about 4 inches now so i think i should know. and for another reason, i need to give it a name, but before i do that, i need to know if it's a male or female.

The tail is longer/thicker on the male than on a female. Post a picture of your turtle's back end & front claws.

I agree with Jen.. definitely looks female to me. I know they say you can't tell until they are around 4" but my turtles tails seemed to display the sex characteristics long before then. What I "thought" they were when smaller turned out to be just what they were when they were 4".. and their nails never changed until they were over 4". Just my observations :)

my guess would be female too... the nails are too short to be male... my male's nails were longer then that at your turtles size

What's the shell length without the curve? If it's near 4 inches, you have a girl. (Nice shell from the pic. :))
