Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Fri Dec 15, 2006 5:08 am   Konk out

Hi, i been away for a bit had renovations etc. still going anyway......

the other day my mum gave my little turtle loads of food, and after a little while i kept finding it sleeping..

but i paniked a bit and thought it had died, is that normal?

it does not help that i cannot distinguish between when she sleeps and when she is sleeping.

Next time you have to go away, get some small plastic containers, measure out the amount of food for 1 feeding & put that amount in each of the plastic containers. That way your mom can just pour the food in from one container without thinking about how much to give your turtle. When I go on vacation, this is how I ensure my turtle is never overfed! You can tell people stuff (how much to feed, etc.) but I notice that people never remember anything you tell them. I always write up a "turtle care" sheet, print it out, leave copy on my fridge AND next to the turtle tank. AND I email a copy to the person, AND send them a copy in the mail (I don't have someone living with me to take care of my pets when I am away). I know this sounds excessive, but I am just trying to cover my bases.

One overfeeding isn't going to hurt your turtle. Just make sure to take steps to prevent that in the future.

Sounds like she overate.

I can't distinguish between "when she sleeps and when she's sleeping" either. What do you mean?
