General Care Discussion :: not eating while at parents house during holiday break!

hi,
i came home (parents house) for the weekend with skittles but the thing is, he's not himself anymore esp when he's here. when i first got him he lived here for a year before i took him with me to my new apt since i was in the dorms and didnt really eat or lets me watch him eat until i got a filter.

i noticed he wont eat his food anymore while he's here so i figured he didnt like standing water (anymore) so i got him a filter to keep here .. right now he's in my old tank which is only a 5 gal for now since its basically vacationfor the last week or 2!!!

he started swimming around again but he's still not eating. as i am typing this, he's starting not to be himself again the last 2 days but just floating like hes standing up by the waterfall of the filter and the conch shell i put in to divert some of the flow to prevent a foamy top. but dont worry he' alive and moves around when i make him move. the food pellets sink but they seem to be gone after they sink but he usually eats them up once they hit the water and it takes a long time for it to "disappear" so i think hes either eating them or they disolved in the water.

he didnt eat the last time i brought him home for a weeked with me either and i brought the heat lamp with me and this time i didnt .. as soon as we got home to my apt he was fine!! i might go buy a heat lamp tmw.. could he be homesick for his raft and 10 gal tank ?? how can i get him to eat until we go home??

he wont even eat his fave food: freeze dried shrimp!! please reply asap!

he is probly just uncomfortable...not eating is his way of saying hey bring me back home! lol i would try to transport your setup from your apt to your parents or arrange for someone to take care of him during the break form your apt. how big is your setup in ur apt.?

I agree with Andrew. More than likely it is just like when you first brought him home. He needed a chance to adjust to his new surroundings, even if he was in the same set up. The fact that everything changed scared him, and he just wasn't up to eating. I would give him a few days to settle back down. If he was healthy before the trip, then going without food for a few days isn't going to hurt him.

yeah i noticed he wasnt liking this place when i bring him home.. most of the time i have one of my roomates feed him when im gone but since it was xmas a new years i just thought it would be better for me to bring him home with me.. he has basically gone without food for about a week and 1/2 so i might go home to my apt thursday so he can feel better

my set up at my apt is a 10 gal tank which i try to keep it 1/2 full with water or just deep enough for him to swim plus i have one of those floating rafts that u stick to the one wall from zoomeds.( any way to clean out the crevices in it?- algae prob). and blue aquarium gravel. i use a 2-5 gal whisper filter and it works fine for us since i only put in about 2 1/2 gal of water in it at a time or maybe 3 and a red infrared heat lamp.. im thinking of getting a underwater heater( is it a good idea???) and uva ubv lamp hooded lid some day cuz i hate the red glow from the lamp in my bedroom during the day.
