General Care Discussion :: Jamal Gwap is growing!!

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Fri Jan 05, 2007 10:15 pm   Jamal Gwap is growing!!

I took a close look at Jamal today, and it looks as if the outer edges of his shell are chipping, and they are a light color. The middle of his shell, where the scutes meet is also a bit rigid in one or two areas. After doing a little bit of searching and reading, I've come to the conclusion that he is growing!

He's very active, swims a lot, floats around the top of the water, eats well... doesn't really bask under his lamp too much, I think he's still getting used to his playpen.

Other than that, he's one happy, and seemingly healthy little dude!

That's all, just thought some of you might be interested.

Pics:
You can see the different color of the edge of his shell pretty good in this one...

Wow that water is so clear that I couldn't tell the tank was filled up. (Was about to make an angry post :D) The turtle does seem he's loosing that circular shape the hatchlings have and is growing into more of an oval.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I recently added about 7" of water to his tank, and at the same time replaced all three filter elements, so that could be a reason that his water is so clear. Plus it's been like three day since that...

Earlier today I caught him basking on the top level of his playpen, too. Which was the first time I've seen him do it.

If i were you id get a algae eater for your tank, i got two. One got eaten and the other one hinds by the filter and when the turts are asleep he cleans the tank for me.

That really is clear water! Cute turtle, too!

Rather than getting an algae eater and risk having it eaten and still have the algae, you can get an algae scrapper to use when cleaning the tank.

Some diluted white vinegar and a paper towel would help take that algae off the glass in a jiffy. :) A very cute turtle.
