General Care Discussion :: Sleeping On Lettuce

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Tue Jan 09, 2007 11:52 pm   Sleeping On Lettuce

My baby turtles love to rest on lettuce to sleep at night if they haven't eaten all of the lettuce. I usually put in a giant leaf for them.

What else can I use as a replacement for lettuce leaves that is more permanent that they can rest on?

Here's something that works for me:

It has a small suction cup so you can attach it to the wall of the tank. My guys love climbing and resting and sleeping on it......

Here's a shot of it on my setup:

My babies used to sleep on their lettuce too. Now they weigh too much, lol. That and they scarf it all down too quick.

Wow, that jungle plant looks GREAT. I will have to look at this & see if it is something I could add in to Sheba's tank.

I've considered the jungle plant, but the only thing that concerns me is escape. If you drape the stuff too high, your turtle can use it to climb out.

That's the plant that I just got too! It was a good price as well, only $8.50 as oppose to $16 that the other ones cost!

I suctioned mine to the bottom of the tank, and let it float up the side. So far, Ralph hasn't been able to knock it off (despite his efforts), and the suction cup seems quite good :D

Mine is set up so a small amount, the first layer of leaves stick out of the water. Just enough where my little monkeys can grab a hold of it, but not climb out. Plus I have covers. :)

Yes, not only can you trim it to fit in your tank, but you can pull the individual leaves off and place them wherever you like...or string them together like I did on the PVC pipe.

You may have to buy two, being that Sheba is such a big girl and all. I think she'll love it!
